Well, after examining my Web pages, and compaing them to some others in the class, I wish to defer to Mr. Todd Crawford. You GO Todd. This man started out the semester with nothing, and has now become the graphics KING!!!! This wonder-boy of the psych 459 class even finished his work EARLY. Are you ready to view the EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD???
Now that I've done that, I would like to give myself a much smaller, but well-deserved pat on the back. I started these classes with nothing also. I couldn't even login to the CSS server because nobody informed me that my login name was different than the one for UNIX. I thought long and hard about dropping this class, although doing so would mean that I wouldn't graduate. Now I'm confident enough to use the system, and I have a mor steady outlook when I face a problem with programming or whatever. How did I accomplish this?
I think I accomplished this sense of confidence through much practice, a lot of Netscape surfing, and quite a few study breaks at Manoa Gardens. (hee, hee.)
Another factor was pride I felt when I finally achieved my goals. For example, I really wanted to use graphics, but we never covered how to do that in class (well, at the time). Before Spring Break I found out that Daniel Saito had graphics up. I spent my Spring Beak at the CLIC lab attempting to find out how she did it. I stumbled upon Dr. James' graphics and copied how he did them, and to my amazement, it worked!
It seems like a really stupid thing, but to figure something out like that on your own is much more gratifying (and frustrating) than to simply be told. However, sometimes, being told how to do something is better than having NO CLUE!
Was it worth it?
As I mostly answered above, yes, it was worth it. This class has wreaked havoc on my life, school schedule, work schedule, and face (yes, zits!), but in the end I have come out with a bit of knowledge that is extremely important. I now have a great skill. SOMEONE PLEASE HIRE ME!!!!!!!!!!!
Suggestions for the next generation
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!!! No. Have confidence in yourself and your ability to endure hardship. The feeling you achieve from completing these assignments is INCREDIBLE!
My advice to the next generation is to keep and open mind, and remember that sometimes there's a better way to do something. We are all really just novices, don't take someone else's word for complete fact.
Experiment.
What can you do? Erase the internet?
Just a joke.....
What I'm really trying to say here is hang on.
I don't even own my own computer. I do all my work from the computer labs on campus (might as well, it's my tax money). There are many obstacles to conquer in this class. You may be surprized at what you can accomplish.
My future on the World Wide Web
It may be grim, folks. Since I'm graduating this semster, ther goes the free account, and the access to create on the Net. I will still be on line, but I'll be coming at y'all from South Carolina on my boyfriend's account.
Suggestions for next semester...
I think it's an interesting idea to build this generational document, but I have some suggestions to improve it and make it easier to read:
1. Every lab report should go into a seperate file. This will help to avoid the problem of long documents.
2. Contrary to what some may say, size DOES matter (that's a joke y'all). Try to keep the documents a reasonable length. Nobody wants to read through something too long. Also, adequate space should be inserted within the documents for ease of reading.
3. Get rid of the glossary section. This was such a waste of time. I had better things to do than come up with terms to identify. Make this extra credit or something.
4. Finally, have more excercises that encourage personal Web exploration.
I don't know how the files could be maintained, because I won't be here. I am not too excited about someone being in my files, though. I will check the files out whenever I can get into the system.
HAVE A GREAT YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!
